The unhindered entry of people into the Schengen area is paid for with a higher security risk. ETIAS now wants to counteract this. With relatively little effort, security within the Schengen area can be increased.
The application can be easily filled out via the Internet
A functioning Internet connection is required to fill out the application. Most people should have the necessary equipment at home anyway. Those who do not have it, simply ask a friend or acquaintance to help him. Travel agents and agencies are also allowed to fill out the application. This means that even people who have had little to do with digital technology are not at a disadvantage.
Filling it out takes only a few minutes, but during this time it is necessary to concentrate. At the border, the data from the passport is compared with the entries on the ETIAS permit. If the data does not match, the border official will refuse entry.
The name and number of the document are particularly important. Especially with the latter, numerical errors happen again and again. Since the passport is not submitted, the application office has no way of checking the accuracy of the data. In principle, it is possible to submit a new application at the airport, but it is questionable whether the plane will wait that long.
ETIAS is valid for three years
