ETIAS and ESTA - what is the difference between the two systems?

Anyone who travels to the USA frequently has been familiar with ESTA since 2009. It is used to secure the US borders. The attack on the World Trade Center hit the USA hard and they reacted immediately. Every traveler must now fill out an ESTA application. The Schengen area is by no means safe from attacks.
