Terrorist groups are repeatedly attacking inside and outside Europe. If every traveller can cross the borders unhindered, there is a real danger that terrorists will cross the borders and carry out attacks within the Schengen area. This has happened in the past. These can be prevented from entering with a simple ETIAS permit.
The travellers not only have to hand in their personal data, but also fill in a questionnaire about their personal convictions. This data is of course checked. Each questionnaire is checked against several databases. If there is an error, staff members check the data again personally. The employees do not make the decision on a refusal easy for themselves, but if they think that the traveller poses a danger, they will do so.
The application is filled out quickly
The effort takes only a few minutes. There is no need to visit a consulate or send in a passport. Travellers who have an internet connection and a suitable terminal device simply call up the page and carefully transfer the data from the identity card into the form. The health and safety questions must be answered to the best of your knowledge. After paying the fee, it usually only takes a few hours for approval.
If you do not have an internet connection, it is best to ask acquaintances or relatives. They can also issue the application for the traveller. Alternatively, there are also agencies and travel agents that offer this service.
