The right visa for every occasion

English

The end of 2022 is expected to be the time. The ETIAS visa will be introduced and from then on will be a fixed component of the visas with which entry into the Schengen area or a member country is possible. The other visas will of course continue to exist and still have their justification. ETIAS serves the security in the Schengen area and at the same time it is a system that requires little effort from the travelers.

Who needs an ETIAS visa?

Basically, an ETIAS visa can only be applied for by residents of certain countries. The reader can find this list on the official ETIAS site. It is very long and is subject to constant change.

In addition to the appropriate nationality, travelers also need the right reason for entry. With ETIAS, entry is only possible for tourist reasons, to visit relatives or for business reasons. In addition, medical treatment is also possible. Especially with the business reasons there are always problems. This does not mean that with ETIAS it would be possible to go to work. However, the traveler can participate in business trips, visit trade fairs or explore business opportunities.

For other reasons a visa must be applied for

In addition to ETIAS, there is the "normal" Schengen visa. Travelers who are not on the above list will definitely need a Schengen visa. The Schengen visa is valid for all countries in the Schengen area. There are several categories of the Schengen visa with different permissions.

With the Schengen visa category A only an airport transfer is possible. Entry into the Schengen area is thus excluded.

Category C is intended for short-term entry. Of these, there are again several sub-categories. Those who want to enter the country only once, choose a Schengen visa with a single entry. In addition, there are Schengen visas for double and multiple entry into the Schengen area. The visa for multiple entry is available as a five-year visa, three-year visa or as a one-year visa.

The validity of the visa does not say anything about the length of stay. A five-year visa does not mean that the traveler may also stay in the Schengen area for five years. Although an unlimited number of stays are possible, these are each limited to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Visas marked with a D are national visas. These are required by travelers who wish to work or study in the country.
