For questions such as "Have you ever committed a crime in connection with narcotics", the facts are probably clear. The situation is different with health questions. We know from ESTA that travellers often declare a slight cold and are therefore rejected. Anyone who answers "yes" to one of the security questions may have to reckon with a refusal. With ESTA, this happens automatically; with ETIAS, the application is checked manually. This means that the traveller still has a chance of getting his ETIAS, but he should not rely on it.
Those who are rejected must apply for a visa. However, the tourist or business traveller should be sure that this will be approved. If the application is rejected, the tourist will not get the fees back, as these are used for administrative purposes and are not payment for the visa.
Third parties can also fill out the application
As with ESTA, third parties will probably also be able to fill out the application. If you are not sure, it is better to ask experts at your travel agency or visa agency. They will be happy to help. Another problem often arises because the application can only be filled out via the internet. Travellers who are not very tech-savvy often do not have an internet connection or a suitable terminal.
