Which data is important for the ETIAS application?
English

In order for ETIAS to be valid when entering the Schengen area, it is important that all data is filled in correctly. The border official checks the data with the passport. In case of discrepancies he will refuse entry. Although it is possible to submit a new application, it cannot be guaranteed that the aircraft is still available. The exact women are not yet available. Due to the similar ESTA system, personal data from the passport and security issues are checked.

Borders open in the Schengen area
English

In 1995, the first states suspended their border controls within the Schengen area. Since then, many states have participated in it. The Schengen area is the largest economic area in the world where no border controls exist. The forthcoming ETIAS approval extends the system by another very important security component. Unfortunately, this freedom of movement has been curbed in recent weeks. Now, free travel within the Schengen area will be possible again step by step.

Is ETIAS postponed because of Corona?
English

The current Covid 19 pandemic is disrupting the lives of many people. Things that were taken for granted are no longer possible or only possible with restrictions. The summer holidays will take place, but in a different way than usual. Travel to most European countries should be possible. Things are not looking so good with the other countries. The Foreign Office has extended the travel warnings until 31 August. In most states the season is already over by then. Quite a few travellers wonder what the ETIAS permit will look like.

From which countries do tourists enter the Schengen area
English

Most of the 28 EU countries report the highest number of overnight guests from other EU countries. Citizens in the Schengen area therefore primarily travel to another country within the EU. In 2016, 500 million people were on holiday in the EU. 72 percent (361 million) came directly from the European Union, the remaining 28 percent came from other regions of the world, including non-EU European countries. In this article we will take a closer look at where exactly the travellers come from.

The Schengen visa and ETIAS
English

The ETIAS does not replace the Schengen visa, it complements it. Until now, people entering the Schengen area needed either a passport without a visa or a Schengen visa. All travellers who were previously able to enter the Schengen area without a visa will in future require an ETIAS entry permit. For travellers who have always needed a Schengen visa, nothing will change. They will still have to apply for their visa.

Similarities and differences between ETIAS and ESTA
English

The requirement for an ESTA application for travelers to the USA has been in place since the beginning of 2009, and the Schengen area will follow at the end of 2022. The participating states want to secure their borders with a similar system. Since the USA has gained more experience in this area, it goes without saying that ETIAS has taken over many of the features of ESTA. However, one cannot be sure that all features are the same, even if the similarities outweigh the differences.

What does ETIAS mean for future travel within the Schengen area?
English

In order to facilitate the entry of citizens of certain countries, the member states of the Schengen area concluded a visa liberalisation agreement. This means that citizens of certain states could enter the Schengen area without a visa for 90 days. If there was no agreement between a state, the traveller needed a Schengen visa for the stay. This allowed the traveller to stay within the Schengen area for up to 90 days. A national visa was required for a longer stay.
