If the application is filled in correctly and there is no hit in one of the databases, there is no reason for the application to be rejected. However, it can happen. The authorities are very thorough because, after all, only people with good intentions are supposed to enter the country. Anyone with a thick criminal record or who is even a terrorist should not enter the country.

At first glance, it does not make sense why ETIAS should be a good weapon in the fight against terrorism. After all, it is only a form that tourists and business people have to fill out before entering the country. However, if you look at the current situation and consider what will change with ETIAS, it quickly becomes clear. Now, travellers from certain countries are allowed to enter the Schengen area without a visa. These are countries from which it is assumed that there is no great danger. Nevertheless, one cannot be sure.

Many people are unsettled by new developments. Those who have so far only been able to enter the Schengen area with a passport may already have heard that a fundamental change is in the offing here from the end of 2022. Similar to travelling to the USA, from this time on travellers will have to submit an application with their personal data. This will be checked, after which authorisation for travel to the Schengen area will be granted.

ETIAS can only be filled out via the internet

FRONTEX is a name that many have heard, but few can imagine. FRONTEX is responsible for the surveillance of borders, both land and sea borders. FRONTEX's headquarters are in Warsaw. The agency has been in existence since 2004 and carries out its tasks in close cooperation with the individual member states. With the introduction of ETIAS at the end of 2022, the work of FRONTEX will of course also increase. Currently, FRONTEX employs around 1200 people. This number is expected to increase to 10,000 by 2027.
