ETIAS will be established at the end of 2022 and so far it is not possible to say with certainty what exactly the system will look like. However, it can be assumed that it will have similarities with the US ESTA system. There are some differences that are already known. For example, with ETIAS, the tourist can travel to the Schengen area for three years. If the application is rejected, the tourist or business traveller can appeal against it.

The UK voted to leave the EU by a narrow majority on 23 June 2016. The country finally left the EU on 31 January 2020. There was a transition period until the end of the year. Since 1 January 2021, the UK no longer belongs to the EU and will now be treated like any other member state. Of course, for the time being, the citizens of the island can enter the Schengen area without a visa. Only with the introduction of ETIAS will they have to change.
